Julie Hesmondhalgh is an actor and theatre-maker whose Working Diary was published by Methuen Drama in 2019. In this seminar Julie will talk about staying creative and engaged even when the paid work isn’t pouring in, how to make a difference through your art, how to stay mentally and physically well in an often tough profession, and about the fantastic and important campaigning work going on to ensure working class access to the creative arts, and proper diversity on our stages and screens.

Julie Hesmondhalgh was born in Accrington, Lancashire in 1970. She studied at LAMDA from 1988-1991 and, after graduating, set up her own theatre company, Arts Threshold. She is best known for her 16 year long multi-award winning stint as Hayley in Coronation Street and her BAFTA-nominated role in ITV’s Broadchurch. Other TV includes: The Trouble with Maggie Cole, The A Word 3, Dr Who, Catastrophe, Inside No 9, Happy Valley, Cucumber, Black Roses (RTS Best Actress 2015).
