Surviving Actors was set up by actors for actors to help and encourage them in all areas of their life as a professional actor. The convention falls into three sections – DEVELOP, SUSTAIN, and CREATE. Events run throughout the year and introduce actors to the various ways of making money outside the profession, using their craft to their advantage, ideas to develop their career; and different opportunities to create work. The convention is completely free and gives people the chance to meet and network with other professional actors seeking work. The events are a realistic and honest approach to real life as an actor... the glitz and glam will come, but you have to pay the bills first - that's where we come in. Events will be home to various companies who use actors for costume work, promotions, giving out freebies, spraying perfume... all the weird and wonderful jobs that you may not love to do but pay well! Events will also focus on getting actors back into work after time away, photographers will be invited, small theatre companies and other industry related groups will also have stalls. The company was founded by actress Felicity Jackson, who, after building up various contacts in the promotional world and other well paid temporary sectors, decided to share this with the constant flow of struggling actors in a city where it shouldn't be impossible to survive. There are too many beautiful and talented actors, so burdened with the panic of finding the money for rent, food and travel that a 9-5 job often takes over and before they know it, acting has taken a back seat. Don't let this be you, take control of your life as an actor, be realistic - you may be the most wonderful actor in the world but before someone else realises that, funding yourself in between jobs is essential to a sustainable career. |
